Starting the ball rolling, was Nikki (Ch Oakridge Lyric CD) who gained her first pass towards her CDX title with a score of 184 points and 3rd place in the ring. In the same competition, her litter brother Eddie gained his third pass at this level (and his CDX title - WELL DONE Brian!!!) with a score of 187 points and 2nd place in the ring. Eddie is now known as Oakridge Lagerfeld CDX. Both dogs put in very enthusiastic (and bouncy) performances - much admired by the spectators, but penalized a little on technical correctness by the judge. Nobody watching could have accused either dog of looking bored though! :-)
The next event was the GSP Club Open Show, where visitor to the showring (Mark's hunting companion, "Muriel") Oakridge Opalesque won the Puppy Bitch class, and Opposite Sex Puppy in Show. I have been showing Muriel while Mark has been on holidays and she has accumulated a booty of 2nd placings at a number of big competitions, including the recent GSP National Show. Not bad, for a rookie in the show ring.
All of the dogs we exhibited at this event (including Cheryl's Kobi) gained placings, and Sascha (Oakridge Panache) was awarded Baby in Show.
Next on the calendar was the GSP Club of Victoria Champ Show, where all but one of the dogs we exhibited gained placings in their age classes, and the one who didn't (Breaker) won the Field and Retrieving QC class. Once again, Sascha won Baby in Show at this event.
The big surprise for me though, was when Hudson (Oakridge Obsidian) won the Puppy Dog class yesterday at the Melbourne Royal under a Canadian judge. Black and white GSPs cannot be shown in North America, so it was a bit of a coup to have done so well with a B/W. Muriel (2nd in Puppy Bitch class) and Nikki (3rd in Aust Bred bitch class), are also black and white. Kobi was awarded a 3rd place at this event, behind his sire. His litter sister, Kleo (Oakridge Kleopatra, owned by Norma & Renzo) also gained a placing in her class.
To top things off for the day, young handler, Saxon, took Breaker (Ch Oakridge Ice Breaker NRD CD) in the child handler class and won her age group competition with a very polished performance. She had been lending a hand with showing the dogs at all these events, so it was great that she also enjoyed some personal success.
All up, a fun weekend, and an opportunity to catch up with GSP friends from far and wide.
